Recently, claims have been made in the lawsuit that our Board approved August smart locks to promote Airbnb and short-term rentals.

This is false and another example of how facts are being twisted to create fear and division in our community.

The truth is simple: residents increasingly want smart-home features, and many modern communities—including our neighboring North Tower—have updated their systems to allow access through keys, FOBs, and smartphones. Our Association has not spent funds on a costly building-wide upgrade, but we recognized the demand and simplified the process by pre-approving certain locks. This ensures compatibility, security, and convenience for residents who choose to install them.

The “Airbnb connection” being pushed in the complaint is misleading. Out of 9,591 ratings for these locks on Amazon, only 4,529 included reviews, and of those, just 52 even mentioned Airbnb. That’s 1.15%—meaning 98.85% of reviewers never mentioned Airbnb at all. To portray these locks as “Airbnb devices” is a distortion of reality. They are widely marketed and used as general smart-home products for ordinary households.

This is yet another attempt to twist facts into a narrative that suits the plaintiffs’ agenda. The decision to approve smart locks was about resident choice, modernization, and security standards—nothing more. These same individuals go on the news claiming they “fear for their safety,” yet when the Board approved an additional security feature for your home, they turn around and spread lies to twist the truth and complain about it.
